What is the JAMB subject combination for Biochemistry? What are the subjects required for Biochemistry? O’Level requirements for Biochemistry? Top Nigerian Tertiary Institutions to study Biochemistry This article will address all of that!

Biochemistry is considered the Mother of all Biological Sciences. Without Biochemistry, Pharmacy, Biology, Medicine and other disciplines wouldn’t exist.

Biochemistry deals with study of chemical basis of life in living organism including animals and plants. It is a very much developed science and has contributed greatly to health science and medical, agriculture, molecular biology and genetics, industry, forensic science, etc.

If you want to study Biochemistry or you are aspiring to, you are definitely on the right track as you will contribute to the human life and existence. Studying of Biochemistry as a degree has good scope like in teaching in medical and dental college, pharma industry, clinical research, pathology labs, nutrition biochemistry, etc.

O’Level Requirements To Study Biochemistry

To study Biochemistry, you must possess a minimum of Five SSCE (5) credit passes in English Language, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Biology.

However, there is a variation to these requirements in some Nigerian tertiary institutions. In the case of some institutions highlighted below:

(i) FUTA accept five (5) ‘O’ level credit passes at two (2) sittings, which must include English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry Physics, Agricultural Science or Biology.

(ii) OAU requires Physics or Biology.

(iii) ABSU accept O’ level credit pass in Physics.

(iv) EBSU, IMSU and COOU requires O’ level pass in English Language.

(v) UMUDIKE requires same combination as in Food Science and Technology

(vi) EBSU requires Agricultural Science in place of Biology and O’ Level pass in Physics.

(vii) NDU accept five (5) ‘O’ level credit passes at not more than two (2) sittings.

(viii) CRUTECH accept same subject combination as Biological Science.

(ix) AJAYI accept five (5) O’ level credit passes which must include Mathematics, English language, Chemistry, Biology, and Physics at one (1) sitting or six (6) O’level credit passes at not more than two (2) sittings.

(x) UNIMAID requires O’level passes in English Language and Mathematics.

JAMB Subject Combination For Biochemistry

To register for Biochemistry in JAMB, you need the following subjects:-

  • English Language is Compulsory
  • With Three other subject such as Chemistry, Biology and Physics or Mathematics
