Top 7 Reasons Intelligent Students Score Low In Jamb

Posted on August 31, 2025 By CampusTimesNG 17 Comments on Top 7 Reasons Intelligent Students Score Low In Jamb

Year in year out, you hear of many intelligent students score low in Jamb. You wonder at times how you end up scoring high than those who are always punctual and regular for tutorials. High Jamb score is an issue for many intelligent students.

This writeup is for intelligent students who think passing Jamb is not possible for them. It is also for those intelligent students who teach others to pass Jamb but are still struggling not to fail JAMB.

Whether it is your first time to write JAMB, or second or third time, this writeup is for you. The good news for you today is that you can be smart, intelligent, brilliant and still score high in JAMB.

Reasons Intelligent Students Score Low In Jamb

1. Lack of Quality Study Time

The fact is, being intelligent does not make you pass Jamb. It will only make it easy for you to understand and study Jamb topics faster than your colleagues. You, therefore, have to sit down and study intensively.

A high score in Jamb is your capacity to answer questions carefully and correctly in the exam hall. If I should ask you the question, what is biomolecule in biology? You don?t need intelligence or smartness to answer the question. You just need to have studied what biomolecule is all about?

2. Shallow Reading

Many intelligent students don?t read enough. They feel they are capable. They solve examples and think that they can answer all the exercises.

Don not assume or think that you know anything until proven. Prove that you know an exercise or topic by attempting as many questions as possible. Not reading enough has done more harm than good to many intelligent students.

3. You are in a Hurry and Never cross Check

Many students are too in a hurry. They never cross-check to know if they answered the question correctly. You may be thinking you chose the right answernot actually knowing that you clicked the wrong one. Checking your work can seriously boost your JAMB score. You would be amazed at the mistakes you will find.

4. You easily forget what you have read

If you are the type that forget what you read easily, then there is a good chance that you won’t do well in the exam. Whether you will remember what you have read or not is a function of how you study. You need to be focused during your exams!

5. Not Eating or Sleeping Well

Statistics have shown that skipping breakfast meal has a negative impact on a child?s ability to remember. Eat when need to and sleep when necessary. Do not focus on book so much that you don?t have time to rest. Also drink enough water as you read.

6. Family issues

If you have moved houses in the recent past or experienced a death of a love one, or had some other kind of large shift in your daily life at home, your might feel too distracted and less passionate about focusing on your studies for Jamb. This particular point is somehow difficult and beyond your control.

7. Over-Confidence and?Procrastination

It is overconfidence that make rat challenge a cat in battle. Overconfidence can be your weak point to scoring low in JAMB. Another serious problem is procrastination.

“There’s still time to prepare for JAMB“. That is the language of procrastinators and overconfident students. They assume there is time

Procrastination has negatively affected many intelligent students and JAMB applicants like you. The earlier you begin preparing for your UTME exam, the better for you.
