What is Examination Fever?

Examination fever is simply referred to as the period where students tend to develop an unusual worry, anxiety and confusion, especially when they are not well prepared to face the examination at that period

Examination period is always a period of anxiety and confusion to some students. Where a student needs to prove how serious he or she has been in school so far. Simply put, most students hate examination period.

I would say from experience as an examiner, that most students tremble at the mention of ‘examination‘. But in general note, academically focused and future conscious students love exams period, and while some students would want exams to come quick so they can quickly go for their holidays. Others would gladly embrace exams period especially end of session examinations which sees them through to the next academic session as they keep climbing the academic ladder.

This post will open your eyes to the tricks of examination, and furnish you with handy tips to overcoming examination fever, thereby helping you building uncommon confidence while preparing to face probably your first examination in the university, and how to overcome the anxiety of examinations popularly known as ‘exams fever‘

Tips To Overcoming Examination Fever For Freshers

  1. Endeavor to attend all lectures and be at the lectures venue before the lecturer.
  2. Never sleep over a note, by this I mean you should ensure you read through all the notes given for that day, never pile up notes till the next day.
  3. Have a reading time table,
  4. Attend tutorials as much as you can.
  5. Always refer any topic you do not understand to senior colleagues or the course lecturer.
  6. Never miss to do any assignment given for a particular day.
  7. Ask questions in class for more clarification,
  8. Create time for other extracurricular activities, this helps to exercise your stressed body, keep you active and alert for your studies
  9. Attend revision classes, as tips regarding the oncoming examination may be disclosed,
  10. Review past questions to familiarize yourself with the method of examination questions by each lecturer.

In the exams hall:

  • Go to the exams hall at least 30 minutes before exam starts,
  • Once you are given the question paper, read through all the questions first.
  • Follow the instructions strictly,
  • Tick the questions you can best answer, and start with them
  • Never mix up two questions in one page of the answer booklet,
  • Always start each question by answering it on a fresh page.
  • Do not waste time on questions you are not so sure of,
  • Concentrate and avoid distractions as much as possible,
  • Be confident to ask the lecturer if a given question is not clear enough.

Sample Of Typical Exams Questions And How To Answer Them

1. Draw an annotated diagram:

If you are asked a question like this, it simply means you should draw and label. So when answering a question like this, draw and also label accurately, while labeling, use a ruler to draw straight lines if possible so your labeling will be neat.

2. Highlight:

This question demands you to only list or bullet the necessary points, only explain when the lecturer states thus, less you will waste time explaining what you should have simply listed and have your full mark.

3. Adumbrate:

This question simply means you should that you should give the main facts and not the details about the subject matter, it is another way of asking you to “Outline”. You would often encounter this and many more in examination,.
