Making an extra income as an NYSC Youth Corps member in Nigeria is becoming more and more necessary. The Federal Government monthly allowance of Nineteen thousand Eight hundred (19,800) can hardly sustain a Youth Corps members’ daily needs.

In some cases, the little State allowances or stipends does not come regularly.

In an effort to cushion the effect, many youth corps members have resorted to asking their parents for supplementary funding.

While other corps member who don’t have that luxury would have to find a legitimate means to augment the monthly allowance.

This is the most popular and widely practiced among young individuals. If you are posted to a School as your Place of Primary Assignment, you should count it as a blessing in disguise.

This can become a huge advantage as you are going to be connected to teachers, students and members of your host communities. You can easily meet them and get information as to who will be needing your services.

Many students in the terminal levels of their education, who are preparing for WAEC, NECO or JAMB will need special lessons. You can approach their parents and agree with them on a convenient schedule and price.

Monetize Your Skill

We always advise students and youth corps members to learn or practice a skill. It will be of great benefit in the future.

If for instance, your skill as a youth corps members is hair making or make up/makeovers, and you can convince Five (5) friends to tell everyone to come make their hair or make up with you, you are in business. You can imagine how much money you can get at the end of each week.

Hospitality

The hospitality industry is a lucrative business avenue that can fetch you a cool money during your service year.

As you get used to the new environment, use that moment to initiate some programmes or projects that will make people enjoy their stay in such places.

If you are deployed to an urban area or a city as a youth corps member, this can be a strategic business to undertake. Imagine how many people who need the services of someone to handle their laundry.

With your level of exposure, there is a way can brand your laundry services well enough to attract and retain customers. Overtime as you grow in this business, you will start realizing huge income.

Blogging

Blogging or content writing is another way to earn an income as a youth corps member. All you need to start is a Laptop, stable internet access and the passion to work.

Even though, earning from a blog usually takes time and patience. What you need is getting the right niche and the technical knowledge. In no time, when you start generating traffic on your blog, you will start making money or extra income.
