The popular likes of Senator DINO MELAYE started his Aluta Comradeship in his days at Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria. In fact, most of all Nigerian Politicians were recruited through Aluta Comradeship on Campus and metamorphosed into the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) until they began running for Public Offices.
The rhetoric chant, ?Great Nigerian Students!… GREAT! Ever conquerors Nigerian Students!… GREAT! I want to Say!… SAY! I want to Jyrate… JYRATE! I want to Translate!… TRANSLATE! I want to Gbo-gbo!… GBO-GBO! I want to Gba-Gba!… GBA-GBA! I want to Shiwon!… SHIWON!?
Based on the spirit of Unionism, such rhetorics like this is a phenomenal approach to declaring a speech in the Students Union Government meetings for a typical Nigerian Campus.
The Student Union Government is established according to the convened governing body of authority in the institution in order to create a platform where students? social needs and amenities can be identified. For instance, the Student Union Government in OAU, Ile-Ife has provisions for student work choices on campus.
Student Unionism created a platform where students can speak in one united voice. And it sought to protect the rights of students within or around their academic environment.
The Student Union Government runs like a democratically run Federal system of government. This student Union body is made up of elected officeholders who are between 200 level and 500 level in their departments. They are known as SUG EXCOs.
There are student representatives elected from each Faculty and Departments of their institutions at every academic year. The EXCOs voice the aspirations of their respective represented colleagues, according to their constituent faculties and department.
The SUG EXCOs get financed through SUG business and students’ registration levy which comes in at the beginning of each academic year.
New undergraduate students are heartily welcomed through organized picnic events. Other events are also organized through the semesters, such as; students? social cocktail party, Talents and awards night, students local and international Excursions, Exhibitions, fashion shows and lots more.
Election exercise comes up at the beginning of the second semester. It starts with the grass-root electoral campaign from departments to faculties. It is tagged with the distribution of handbills, pasting posters around the campus, social electoral campaign, declaring the manifestoes and intellectual debates where students throw out their support for their active comrades.
Although there are excesses in the struggle of Aluta Comradeship, it is lighted up with lots of fun to excite students through the course of their study. While this can cause lots of distractions for some students, yet we understand that ?all work and no play make Jack a dull boy?.

There are student bodies and associations on the campus whereby students’ active participation helps to build the leadership spirit, passion and innate qualities in us.
