Location

The Maritime Academy Oron is one of Nigeria’s federally owned institutes. It is located on 100 hectares of land in Oron Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom State’s south-eastern region, on Latitude 4° 47’N, Longitude 8° 15’E. It has a water front close to the Calabar Ports channel approach.

History

The Federal Executive Council No.EC.(77) 172 established the Maritime Academy of Nigeria, formerly known as the Nautical College of Nigeria, in 1979. It was intended to be an integrated educational and training facility for shipboard officers, ratings, and shore-based management personnel. In 1983, the Academy graduated its first class of Cadets.

The college’s scope was expanded in 1988 with the promulgation of Decree No. 16 of 1988, which established a statutory mandate to train all levels and categories of personnel required for the effective and efficient operation of all facets of the Nigerian Maritime Industry.

 

2025/2026 NATIONAL DIPLOMA (ND) POST UTME REGISTRATION EXERCISE

The online registration for Maritime Academy of Nigeria Post-UTME screening exercise for admission into the various two (2) years (four semesters) National Diploma (ND) programmes for the 2025/2026 academic session will commence on 5th August 2025 and close on 30th September 2025. The following full time ND programmes are on offer:.

  • Nautical Science
  • Marine Engineering
  • Electrical/Electronic Engineering
  • Maritime Transport and Business Studies

 

2025/2026 HIGHER NATIONAL DIPLOMA (HND) ADMISSION SALES OF FORM

The Management of Maritime Academy of Nigeria hereby invites suitably qualified candidates for admission into the various two (2) years (four semesters) Higher National Diploma (HND) programmes of the Academy for the 2025/2026 academic session.

Online registration opens on Monday, 5th August 2025, and close on 30th September 2025. The following full time HND programmes are on offer:

  • Nautical Science
  • Marine Engineering
  • Maritime Transport and Business Management

 

Courses offered in Maritime Academy Oron

There are several courses offered in Maritime Academy Oron. However, the Academy is divided into three schools: the School of Nautical Studies, the School of Marine Engineering, and the School of Maritime Studies.

Nautical Studies

The School of Nautical Studies offers solid academic and professional training for Nigerian and international midshipmen and women in areas such as:

  • Hydrographic surveys
  • Environmental support
  • Security Awareness/Maritime Security
  • Middle level manpower training for Nigeria’s hydrography industry.

  • Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boats (other than Fast Rescue Boat)

Requirements for Nautical Science National Diploma courses offered in Maritime Academy, Oron

Basically, in Nautical Science, you can earn a National Diploma (ND). Before being considered for admission in any of the ND courses offered the Maritime Academy Oron, candidates must take the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB)/Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), select the Academy as their first choice, and score above the Academy’s cut off mark.

JAMB Subjects Combination:

  • English Language
  • Mathematics
  • Physics
  • Geography

Aptitude/Screening Tests: Candidates must pass a screening exercise/aptitude test as determined by management/regulatory authority from time to time. Before being considered for admission, candidates must pass a medical examination and be physically fit.

0 Level: Five (5) credit passes in O/Level (WAEC, GCE, NECO, NABTEB, etc. ), with one of them being a credit pass.

  • English Language
  • Mathematics
  • Physics
  • Geography

in no more than two (2) sittings, and any other related science subject.

Candidate must be under the age of 21 at the time of enrollment and must be single at the time of admission and for the duration of the program.

Requirements for Nautical Science Higher National Diploma courses offered in Maritime Academy, Oron

Students who want to enroll into the department of Nautical Science, must meet the following requirements:

  1. Pass the Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) or its equivalent in not more than two (2) sittings with at least FIVE CREDIT passes in subjects such as English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Geography, and any other appropriate science subject.
  2. Have a National Diploma in Nautical Sciences from the Maritime Academy of Nigeria or any approved institution registered with the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board with a Cumulative Grade Point Average of not less than 2.50 (Lower Credit) (JAMB). Candidates should note that they must have a JAMB registration number.
  3. Have completed a minimum of one year of post-ND Industrial Training with evidence or have a minimum of one year of cognate job experience.

Marine Engineering

Courses offered in Maritime Academy Oron in the School of Marine Engineering are:

  • Marine Engineering
  • Marine Electrotechnology (Electrical Electronics)

The program is based on IMO models and includes theoretical, analytical, and laboratory work so that graduates can work in both on- and off-shore Maritime Engineering.

Admissions Criteria for Marine Engineering National Diploma courses offered in Maritime Academy Oron

Before being considered for admission, National Diploma (ND) in Marine Engineering candidates must sit for the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB)/Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), choose the Academy as their first choice, and score above the Academy’s cut off point.

  • English Language
  • Mathematics
  • Physics
  • Chemistry

It is important to note that candidates must have a JAMB registration number.
  3. Have a minimum of one year of post-ND Industrial Training with evidence or a minimum of one year of cognate job experience.
  4. Candidates with a PASS at the National Diploma level from the Nigerian Maritime Academy or another approved school must have completed a minimum of two years of post-ND industrial training with evidence or certification.

Maritime Transport

The school of marine transport offers training in managerial skills in the maritime and related industries of oil and gas, marine insurance, maritime law, import/export practice, banking.

Moreover, through the Professional Programmes of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport and the Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria, the school has expanded its scope to give instruction in general Logistics and Transport. National Diploma in Maritime Transportation and business Studies And Higher National Diploma in Maritime transport and business Management are two programs offered by the School of Maritime Studies.

Admission Requirements for Maritime Transport National Diploma courses offered in Maritime Academy Oron:

Applicants for the ND in Maritime Transport and Business Management must meet the following requirements:

Five (5) credit passes at O/Level (WASC, GCE, NECO, NABTEB, etc.) in English Language (not Literature in English), Mathematics, Economics, and any two (2) Social Studies subjects in not more than two sittings.

Age limit: Candidate must be 25 years old or younger at the time of admission and must be single at the time of admission and throughout the program.

Requirements for Maritime Transport and Business Management Higher National Diploma courses offered in Maritime Academy Oron

Applicants for the HND in Maritime Transport must meet the following requirements:

  1. Have passed the Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) or its equivalent with at least FIVE CREDIT PASSES in subjects such as Mathematics, English Language, Economics, and any two of Commerce, Government, Financial Accounting, and Business Management in no more than TWO SITTINGS.
  2. Have a National Diploma in Maritime Transport and Business Studies from the Maritime Academy of Nigeria or another approved institution registered with the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board with a Cumulative Grade Point Average of not less than 2.50 (Lower Credit) (JAMB). It is important to note that candidates must have a JAMB registration number.
  3. Have gained a minimum of one year cognate work experience in a relevant business or completed a minimum of one year post-ND Industrial Training with evidence.
  4. Candidates with a PASS at the National Diploma level from the Maritime Academy of Nigeria or another approved school must have completed a minimum of two years of post-ND Industrial Training with evidence or two years of related job experience in a relevant organization.

MAN Oron Cut-Off Mark for 2025/2026 Academic Year
