Stanford University is a private research university located in Stanford, California. The university?is known for its academic achievements, wealth, and selectivity; it ranks among the top universities in the world.?Stanford was established in 1885 and named after by Leland and Jane Stanford in memory of their only child, Leland Stanford Jr., who had died of typhoid fever at the age of fifteen (15) in 1884. Stanford was a Senator of the United States and former Governor of California who made his wealth as a railroad tycoon.

Stanford today is organized around?seven schools consisting of forty (40) academic departments at the undergraduate and graduate level and four (4) professional other schools that focus on graduate programs in education, law, medicine and business. Stanford is also an international institution, enrolling students from across fifty (50) U.S. states and Ninety-One (91) other countries around the world.

The university is also an athletics powerhouse, with a history of 128 national honours and titles, 22 consecutive Learfield Sports Directors? Cups, awarded to the top intercollegiate athletics program in the country. It currently has about 900 student-athletes. Admission to Stanford is opened to both local and international students throughout the year.

Stanford University Map and Location

Stanford University is located 35 miles south of San Francisco and 20 miles north of San Jose, The higher institution is nestled in the heart of Northern California?s dynamic “Silicon Valley,? home to Google, Yahoo!, Hewlett-Packard, and many other great companies that were founded by and continue to be led by Stanford alumni and faculty.

To the west of Stanford’s 8,180-acre campus are the Pacific Ocean and the Santa Cruz Mountains, and to the east San Francisco Bay. Known as The Peninsula, the region is rich in natural beauty, entertainment and culture. Although?Stanford is almost a community unto itself and even has its own postal code?94305?it calls the City of Palo Alto home. Downtown Palo Alto is a short distance from the university’s campus and includes many attractions, as well as many stores and restaurants.

Stanford University Ranking

Stanford University rank 6th in the 2020 edition of Best Colleges is National Universities. Stanford is also the best university in the world for graduate employability index for the second consecutive year. The QS graduate employability ranking index assesses the extent at which universities produces employable graduates and thier ability to establish connections between students and employers.

Stanford University Library

Stanford university library is arguably the best in the world. It is operated on a 24 hours basis. The library encompasses more than 20 libraries in all. The main library in the SU library system contains various meeting and conference rooms, reading rooms and study spaces.

The libraries hold a collection of about Nine (9) million volumes, 260,000 special or rare books, 1.5 million e-books, 1.5 million audiovisual collections, 75,000 serials, Six (6) million microform holdings, and thousands of other digital resources materials, making it one of the biggest and most diverse academic library systems in the world.

Stanford University Jobs

There are a lot of job opportunities for local and international students at Stanford campus. To qualify for the on-campus job you must be enrolled as a student in a full course of study and remain enrolled full-time. You are qualified for on-campus employment as early as your first quarter at the university. International students may work “on campus” up to Twenty (20) hours per week when school is in session and full-time during vacation and holiday periods.

You may be employed on a full-time basis during vacation and holidays periods, including summer vacations, provided you are qualified and intend to register for the next school session.

Fresh students or transfer will also be required to pay the New Student Orientation Fee ($525) and the Document Fee ($250). These one-time charges will be added in the budgets of fresh students.

Stanford University Admission Requirements

Stanford is committed to enrolling many international students from around the world.?The application process is the same for all prospective students regardless of citizenship or country of residence.

Required Application Components

  • $90 nonrefundable application fee or fee waiver request
  • ACT or SAT (Writing/Essay not required) (TOEFL, IELTS, Duolingo English Test, etc)
  • Letter of recommendation
  • Official transcript(s)
  • Letters of recommendation from two teachers
  • Midyear transcript (by February 15)

Note: Stanford assesses applications using either official or self-reported test scores for all students. Please, self-report your highest scores in the Testing section of either the Coalition Application or the Common Application. All official scores will be needed if you are offered admission and choose to enrol.
