JAMB, WAEC, NECO Grading Point Analysis For UTME Candidates

The understanding of JAMB, WAEC, NECO grading point system is very important and critical to your gaining of admission into your preferred tertiary institution of choice.

However, it has come to our notice that some JAMB UTME candidates are still quite confused about what this grading point system is all about. The mystery has now been unravelled below.

JAMB, WAEC, NECO Grading Point

WHAT IS GRADING POINT SYSTEM?

There should be no ambiguity on these so called “Grading Point System”.

The grading point system was newly introduced by the JAMB Board. In these new system candidates seeking admission into any tertiary institution would be awarded points according to their JAMB and performance in WASSCE and or NECO.

These accumulation of these points gives you a clear idea as to whether you will gain admission or not.

 

How To Calculate JAMB, WAEC, NECO Grading Point For Admission

Now, below here you will see how to calculate your score for JAMB as well as your scores in WAEC or NECO. And also if you are combining results from two sittings, here is an opportunity to know your fate.

As stated in the new grading system, candidates that had single sitting of WASSCE or NECO SSCE would be awarded 10 points, while those that had their results at more than one sitting would score only 3 points.

 

JAMB Score Grade Points- Official JAMB Grading System

The points that would accrue to candidates, according to the official grading system are as follows:-

  • 180 – 185 -20 Points
  • 186 – 190 -21 Points
  • 191 -195 -22 Points
  • 196 – 200 – 23 Points
  • 201 – 205 -24 Points
  • 206 – 210  -25 Points
  • 211  -215 -26 Points
  • 216 -220 -27 Points
  • 221 -225 -28 Points
  • 226 -23 -29 Points
  • 231 -23 -30 Points
  • 236 – 240 -31 Points
  • 241 -32 Points
  • 246 -25 -33 Points
  • 251 -300 – (34- 43points)
  • 300 -40 – (44  60 Points)

WAEC/NECO GRADE POINTS

As stated in the new grading system, candidates that had single sitting of WASSCE or NECO SSCE would be awarded 10 points, while those that had their results at more than one sitting would score only 3 points.

  1. Single Sitting gives 10 Points
  2. Combined Results gives 3 Points

A1 is 6 Points
B2 and B3 are 4 Points

C4 and C6 are 3 Points

 

THIS IS HOW TO CALCULATE JAMB GRADING POINT FOR ADMISSION

For example, assuming you Scored 230 In UTME, you will be awarded JAMB point of 30 Points and if you present just one WAEC Result, you another 10 Points -This means that you cleared all your WAEC results in one Sitting otherwise, if you use combined results you will be allocated a grade of 2.

WAEC GRADE POINT ANALYSIS

You also get good points if you have excellent grades in your WAEC result. This JAMB score analysis also applies to a candidate using NECO, So you can calculate for NECO grading system 2023/2024.

For example if you have TWO As, you will additional points of

2 A: 2 X 6 = 12 Points-This increases your chances of getting admission into your university of choice.

2 B: 2 X 4 = 8points

2 C: 2 X 3 = 6points

If you sum everything together, you have:

Total Points = 34+10+12+8+6=70 Points

Please Note: You must however try to find out or know the CUT-OFF MARKS of the school of your choice. The cut off marks will put together to determine your admission.

 

West African Senior School Certificate (WASSCE)

West African School Certificate replaced the West African General Certificate of Education Ordinary and Advanced levels (GCE ‘O’ and ‘A’ levels) in 1989.

E8 8.00 – 8.99 40.00 – 44.00 Pass D
F9 9.00 0.00 – 39.00 Fail F

What is the NECO grading scale?
Under the new WAEC AND NECO Grading system, A1 is. Excellent, B2 is Identified as Very Good, B3 Is Identified. as “Good “, C4, C5 and C6 are interpreted as Credit. D7 and E8 are interpreted as Pass(still failure).

General Grade System of WAEC and NECO for Nigerian students:
