UTME JAMB exam comprises four (4) subjects combination. One compulsory subject is the Use of English, and three (3) other subjects which goes with your course of study.
JAMB exam is completely Computer Based Test (CBT). Meaning all your JAMB questions will be asked and answered with a computer.
So you have to know how to answer JAMB Questions with computer especially if this is your first time JAMB exam or your computer skill level is low.
What To Expect On JAMB CBT Exams Day
You will be given two hours to answer 180 questions; 60 for English, and 40 for each of the other subjects. Speed and accuracy matter a lot. If you have been using the JAMB CBT Mobile App (for Android mobile phones) and JAMB CBT Software (for Desktops and Laptops), the examination should be simple enough.
Important Computer Keyboard keys to remember
If you are using the keyboard, here are the most important keys;
N – To move to the next question
P – To go back to the previous question
A – To select option A on a question
B – To select option B on a question
C – To select option C on a question
D – To select option D on a question
S – To submit your exam (Be Careful)
R – To Cancel Submit (and RETURN)
The above will be stated before you start the exam, so you should read the instructions properly before starting.
However, you should note that there are actions you may not be able to perform using the keyboard. In this case, you must use your Mouse (or track-pad). These are;
If you need to switch from one subject to another. That is if you want to answer a particular subject before going to another.
If you need to use the on-screen calculator at the top right corner of your screen.
The on-screen calculator will be available on the screen for candidates who will be taking subjects that involve calculations.
Can I Write JAMB Without Computer Training?
YES, you can answer JAMB Questions without computer training. If you need any “computer training” at all, it is only to know how to answer JAMB Questions with computer mouse and keyboard.

Questions for JAMB UTME are set using the syllabus to set questions. Approved professionals are given the topics in the syllabus to set questions. Then, those people form and create questions from textbooks, questions under the topics, past questions, and their experience.

How Do I Prepare And Pass JAMB This Year?

- Start preparing early, like three (3) months before the exam date.
- Like a track race, set a high target Score. If your course is competitive, plan to score 3??
- Study for JAMB the right way. Set personal study time-table and practice several mock exam for your self.
- Consistently study with determination. Shut out or postpone distractions.
- Work with JAMB Syllabus to understand mode of questions per topic.
- Make use of JAMB Past Questions so as to quickly get used to how to select the write answers.
- Use JAMB recommended Textbooks for your study. If you can afford one, borrow and make photocopies.
- Learn how to manage your time bearing in mind exam duration of 30 minutes for each subject
How To Avoid Missing JAMB exam
- To avoid missing your JAMB UTME examination ensure you travel to your JAMB exam venue at least 3 or 2 days prior to your exam date.
- Identify the examination centre, and study the nature of traffic that occurs before the hour preceeding the exam.
- Determine whether to book an hotel space or find a day’s accommodation or squart in order to avoid lateness.
- Ensure you get to the exam venue at least 2 hours before the starting time.
- Take with you adequate writing materials.
- Don’t forget to have a good breakfast, but avoid drinking too much water to delay frequent visiting of the toilet.
- Take prior adequate medication to avoid falling sick on exam day.
- Be confident of yourself and pray before you start your exam.
How Do I Manage JAMB CBT Exam Duration?
- First be conscious that If you arrive the CBT Centre after thirty minutes (30mins.) into the examination, you will be bared from getting into the testing centre. See 2024 JAMB CBT Exam Centres In Nigeria 36 States
- The DURATION of the JAMB UTME Exam is 2 hours, within which you are expected to answer 180 MULTIPLE QUESTIONS.
- To sufficiently allot time to each question, divide 120 minutes (i.e 2hrs) by 180. This will give you 40 SECONDS. Therefore, you should plan how to spend about 40 SECONDS (less than a minute) on each question.
- Where you can’t quickly determine an accurate answer, write the question number on a sheet of paper, and jump to the next question until you finish that subject. Then, return to the Question number to answer it again.
- Be sure to choose the closest answer where there are two or three close answers.
How To Answer JAMB Questions With Computer
When you are assigned to your seat, quickly check the computer devices to know if the devices are properly working. Shake the mouse, and click on the longest key on the keyboard. If you notices any device is not working, quickly call the attention of one of the CBT centre invigilators. See Tips To Overcoming Examination Fever.
Power outage or system failure will not result in the loss of the selected answers and the time allocated. So don’t panic when there is an outage. You will be guided on what to do by the JAMB CBT invigilators/ exam officials.
NOTICE: JAMB UTME CBT HAS FOUR (4) BATCHES EACH DAY
The UTME will commence on April 25, 2023.
1st Batch, Will Commence By 7:00 am
2nd Batch, Will Commence By 9:00am
3rd Batch, Will Commence By 12:00pm
4th Batch, Will Commence By 3:00pm
JAMB Comprises Four(4) Subjects
(1). English = 60 questions in 40 minutes.
(2). 2nd Subject = 40 questions in 27 minutes
(3). 3rd Subject = 40 questions in 27 minutes
(4). 4th Subject = 40 questions in 26 minutes
A total of 180 questions and 2hours.
10 Questions will be from the JAMB recommended reading text.
Use an average 40 seconds to answer each question.

How To Answer JAMB Questions With Computer Keyboard & Mouse Device
First let me show you How To Answer JAMB Questions With Computer Keyboard:
This is the simplest method because it involves using just 9 keys (A, B, C, D, N, P, S, R, Y) on the keyboard.
- Press “A” to choose option A as your answer.
- Press “B” to choose option B as your answer.
- Press “C” to choose option C as your answer.
- Press “D” to choose option D as your answer.
After choosing the option that you think is the correct answer for that question,
- Press “N” to go to the Next question.
- Press “P” to go back to the Previous question.
When you have answered all the questions in your four subjects,
- Press “S” to Submit your exam.
The computer will pop up a question on the screen asking if you really want to submit.
- Press “Y” to say YES and confirm your submission.
- Press “R” to Return to the questions without submitting.
CAUTION!!!
Once you press Y for YES after pressing S for SUBMIT, your submission will be confirmed and there is NO GOING BACK.
Be sure you have finished and satisfied with all your answers in your four subjects before submitting.
Then Let me show you How To Answer JAMB Questions With Computer Mouse:
If you are good with computers, the mouse device can also serve you better. When you use a mouse device use the LEFT CLICK to select your answer.
- Move the mouse pointer (cursor) to the option you want to choose.
- Point the cursor directly on the small circle behind that option.
- Left-click on your mouse to select that option.
- Move the cursor to point to “NEXT” button.
- Left-click on the mouse to go to the Next question.
- Repeat step 1-5 for the next and other questions.
After answering all the questions in your four subjects,
- Move the cursor to point to “SUBMIT EXAM” button. Left-click the mouse.
The computer will pop up a question asking if you really want to submit. - Left-click on “YES” to confirm your submission.
- Left-click on “NO” or “RETURN” to go back to the questions.
Once you click on YES after clicking on SUBMIT EXAM, your submission will be confirmed and there is NO GOING BACK.
Caution!!! Be sure you have answered the questions in all your four subjects before submitting.

You do not have to press the CAP lock to answer questions. Concentrate on the Navigation keys and the Enter Keys.

My question is that is it required that we submit a subject at a time or we are expected to submit all four subjects at once?
On the computer, you will submit a subject after you finished answering. Then you continue with the next subject.
Pls the 9 keys that we are to use ,are they the alphabetics keys on the keyboard
Hi Okoli, the alphabetic keys are eg, A, S, D, F, L, K, J. So learn how locate, pick alphabet keys in order to type fast and clear.
Other keys you will use is the NAVIGATION Keys.
What if u want to use a calculator on the computer?and also when reading passages and u will want to scroll up wat do u press?
To use a computer calculator simple calculation, quickly find and open the CALCULATOR App before opening the JAMB questions paper. So that you can pick the app from the Status Bar below the computer screen.
However, to scroll up, use the Navigation keys (or Arrow keys) to scroll up and down.

Your CBT answers will be accepted after you click on SUBMIT. So, I don’t see where you will save answers.
How can i correct answer i computer if i detect that i choose wrong option before
Before you click ‘Submit’, you should click the back arrow key to go back to the previous page. Then simply click on the correct answer.

No dear, Calculator will be seized before you enter he hall. Prepare well to sit without the use of a calculator.
