Federal Polytechnic Idah formerly Idah College of Technology was established in November 1977, the School popularly known as POLYIDAH is located in Idah, Kogi State, it is one of the oldest established polytechnics in the North-Central region of Nigeria.

The Polytechnic is accredited by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) to issue certificates for courses/programs at the National Diploma, Higher National Diploma and professional Diploma levels.

JAMB adopts 140, 100 as minimum scores for universities, poly, colleges of education. The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), has adopted the National Minimum Tolerable score for admission into universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education as 140, 100 and 100 respectively.

To be eligible to participate in Idah Poly Post UTME screening exercise, you must have scored 120 and above in the last Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

Entry Requirements

To study at Federal Polytechnic Idah, the following requirements must be fully met;

  • Prospective candidates must score UTME/JAMB cut-off mark of at least 120
  • Candidates must possess a minimum of five (5) O/L Credit Passes in WASC, SSCE, NECO and GCE at not more than two sitting.
  • He/She must have compulsory credit passes in English Language and Mathematics in SSCE to be qualified for admission.

HIGHER NATIONAL DIPLOMA (HND) Courses

I. SCHOOL OF BUSINESS STUDIES
(a) Accountancy;
(b) Business Administration and Management;
(c) Marketing;
(d) Office Technology and Management.

II. SCHOOL OF GENERAL AND ADMINISTRATIVE STUDIES
(a) Public Administration.

III. SCHOOL OF TECHNOLOGY
(a) Computer Science;
(b) Food Science and Technology;
(c) Hospitality Management Technology;
(d) Leisure and Tourism;
(e) Mathematics and Statistics;
(f) Science Laboratory Technology with Options in Biology/
Microbiology, Physics with Electronics, Chemistry/Biochemistry.

IV. SCHOOL OF ENGINEERING
(a) Civil Engineering Technology (Structures Option);
(b) Electrical/Electronic Engineering Technology with options in:

(i) Electronics/Telecommunications;

(ii) Power;

(c) Mechanical Engineering Technology (Power and Manufacturing Options);
(d) Metallurgical Engineering Technology;
(e) Foundry Engineering Technology.

V. SCHOOL OF ENVIRONMENTAL STUDIES
(a) Architectural Technology;
(b) Building Technology;
(c) Estate Management and Valuation;
(d) Quantity Surveying;

Entry Requirements

For a candidate to be considered for admission in the school, the following basic requirements must be met;

In addition to National Diploma requirements,

A prospective candidate for Higher National Diploma must possess at least a lower credit (CGPA) of 2.50 in National Diploma in relevant ND Programme.

In exceptional cases, candidates with pass grade and a minimum of two years post qualification experience in the specific field may be considered for admission.

A minimum of twelve (12) months of supervised industrial experience,

Must possess 5 credit passes in relevant O-Level subjects in not more than two sittings.

A transcript is required for admission into all HND programs in the institution especially prospective candidates from other institutions.
