5 Factors That Guarantee Your Admission Into Any University

Posted on June 24, 2025 By CampusTimesNG 13 Comments on 5 Factors That Guarantee Your Admission Into Any University

The fact that you passed JAMB is not a determining factor that guarantee your admission into any Nigerian university.

I once heard from a JAMB candidate, who said ” I got distinction in my O’Level results and my JAMB score is 250, so i have automatic admission into any university”. I would like to use this opportunity to say that there is no such thing as that.

If for instance, you apply to study medicine at the Obafemi Awolowo University, ile ife, and you scored 250 in JAMB, you may likely not be offer admission.

The simple truth is that, your admission into any university is directly determine by a number of factors which are carefully explained below.

5 Factors That Guarantee Your Admission Into Any University

1. YOUR PERFORMANCES IN JAMB

The fact that you score high in JAMB does not guarantee your admission. But, your high performances will surely give you an edge over others. The higher your performances in JAMB, the lesser the difficulty in gaining admission.

If for instance, you score above 270+ in JAMB, you will have a chance of being admitted to study any competitive course.

2. THE NATURE OF THE COURSE OF STUDY

There are some courses that are highly marketible and most rewarding. They call them “Hot cake courses” like Medicine, Pharmacy, Engineering, Nursing and so on, but they require higher UTME score.

If however, you choose a “Less marketible courses” like Religious studies, French, Sociology etc, you would only need a lower JAMB score.

3. THE COURSE COMPETITIVENESS IN YOUR PREFERRED UNIVERSITY

Some schools ?are known to be good at a particular course. And because of this, the demand for those courses in that particular school get higher than in other schools.

For instance, ABU Zaria is known for Architecture, UNIJOS for Law and UNIBEN for pharmacy. You will expect the cut-off marks for those courses to be higher than it is in other schools.

4. THE NUMBER OF STUDENTS TO BE ADMITTED

Some universities are more willing to admit more students than others because they possess higher carrying capacity.

Schools like ABU Zaria admits more students when compared with others like UNILORIN and UNIJOS.

If for instance, you got a lower score like 200 in JAMB and you apply for any course in ABU, you are most likely to get admission.

5. YOUR CATCHMENT AREA

The catchment area to your preferred university is very important. It’s a vital factor that determine whether you gain admission or not.

The Federal Government under NUC stipulates that 35% of admitted students should be selected based on catchment area.

That means if you apply to university from your catchment area, you have 35% ?chance of admission already.

In conclusion, I always advice students to put aside sentiments when considering to apply for admission into any Nigerian university.

Follow the five factors highlighted in this page and your admission into any university is guaranteed.

Accounting has no connection with Nursing. So you cannot apply with Direct Entry. Since you said you have 5 Science subjects from last year’s WAEC Exam, you should register for JAMB.
