How To Write A Good Canadian Resume

Posted on October 22, 2023October 22, 2023 By CampusTimesNG No Comments on How To Write A Good Canadian Resume

While searching for a Canadian Job, a compelling Canadian resume will describe what you can accomplish professionally in a manner that also indicates what you can offer for an employer.

Job opportunities come up unexpectedly, therefore, an updated modern resume is the key to a successful job search.

Your resume must clearly, concisely and strategically present your qualifications to get a recruiter interested in meeting you. It should convey your skills, work experience and assets.

While the Migrant job rate is currently rising in Canada, here is a well-presented Do’s and Don’ts of how to write a flawless resume and what to include.

How Can I Write A Flawless Canadian Resume?

If you want to speed up with getting a job make sure you keep your resume clear and concise.
An employer takes about 30 seconds to skim a resume. You would really want them to see right away that you are qualified for the position.

1. Proofread your resume numerous times

Ensure that your Canadian resume does not have spelling or grammar mistakes. Have someone else read it over to be double sure. A simple spelling mistake on a resume can give a negative impression to the employer. When this reduces your competence, it can prevent you from getting the job.

2. Limit your resume to two pages

On your Canadian resume, you should emphasize on your Canadian resume about your most recent experience. Older jobs and experience more than 15 years old should either be cut out or reduced. This way, you can make the employer focus on more relevant information. See 6 Things Recruiters Target In A Resume at First Glance

3. Design your resume to suit the job you are applying for

It is good enough to go straight to the point. Specify work experience or achievements that have a connection with the position you are applying to. You can do this by reviewing the job description or the employer website.

4. Highlight what you have accomplished

You should be able to identify the best examples of where you demonstrated your skills. These examples should be enough to defend what you achieved in your role and should reflect what kind of employee you are. It is far best to include this information in the “Work experience” section of the Canadian resume.

5. Be honest

Lying on your resume is a very bad idea. You should not overstate your skills or results as it will mislead the employer and create a bad impression about you. You must have confidence in what you have to offer. See What To Avoid When Writing A Good Resume

6. Use Social Media

Many employers like to cross-reference your resume with your online presence. LinkedIn is a very popular business-related social networking site. Make sure to update your LinkedIn profile when you update your resume.

Employers may also search for you from other social media tools, such as Facebook, Twitter, and blogs. First impressions are important, so if you don’t want a potential employer to see something that can create a bad impression of you, don’t make it publicly accessible or post such online for any reason.

7. Quantify your achievements

An employer sees huge potentials from your achievement. Make use of firm numbers that the employer will understand and show a compelling impression. For instance, how many persons you supervised, how many products you sold, you increased sales by what percentage, etc.

8. Use simple words and action verbs

Someone reading your resume might not necessarily be the employer. Resumes can possibly be reviewed by recruiters or Human Resources specialists who are not familiar with your specific field. So it is advisable to use simple and plain language, but also persuasive verbs like for instance; accomplished, leveraged, handled, managed, led, developed, increased, etc.

9. Include unpaid work that advertises your skills

If you have at any time volunteered with a well-known organization or ever worked for an important cause, make sure you include it in your resume. You should show these experiences under the “Work experience” or the “Volunteer work” section, especially if they are connected to the position you are applying for.

10. Double-check and add your contact information

Your resume for Canadian job search has to indicate your name, address, email, and phone number. Ensure to place this information at the top of the first page. Also, make sure you give a piece of accurate information. Otherwise, the employer will find it difficult to contact you.
