In order to gain admission to universities, polytechnics, colleges, and other educational institutions across Anglophone-speaking West African countries, Senior School Certificate Examinations are administered by the West African Examination Council (WAEC), an examination organization.

In order these objectives, WAEC employs the services of Freelancers who are often referred to as WAEC Examiner.

These examiners supervises examinations, mark and records examination Scripts.

If you are an intending examiner who wish to mark WAEC scripts, you must possess the following qualifications to be appointed as a WAEC Examiner.

Requirements/Qualifications For Appointing A WAEC Examiner

To be eligible as an examiner, you must fulfil the following requirements:-

  • Possess a minimum of first degree or its equivalent in a field related to the subject he/she wishes to examine;
  • Have a minimum of two years post- NYSC teaching experience preferably a Senior Secondary School;
  • Possess thorough knowledge of the subject he/she wishes to examine; Check Eligibility
  • Complete the prescribed application form; Prospective Examiners;
  • Carry credentials to the marking centre for sighting and attach photocopies to the completed application form;
  • The candidate must be a person of high integrity, therefore there must be an attestation to his/her character from the current employer.

How much do WAEC examiners get paid?
“The NECO marking fee per script is N9.57, the lump sum is N16 per script, and attendance is N2000. The cost of attending WAEC is N2,500. NECO charges a coordination fee of N3,600.”

Who exactly is a WAEC examiner?
Based on the marking guide, he/she is solely responsible for determining the order in which exam answers will be marked. This is typically someone with ten years of experience marking the subject. The examining bodies determine and appoint them.
