Admission Requirements for Art Courses in ABU Zaria

The following are the SSCE/NECO and UTME requirements for Art courses in ABU Zaria:

African Languages and Cultures

O’Level Requirements: Five (5) SSC credit passes in Igbo, English Language, and any other Arts subject are required.
UTME Topics: Igbo and two (2) Arts and Social Sciences subjects.

Arabic

Five (5) SSC credit passes in English Language, Arabic, and three (3) other appropriate courses are required for the O’Level.
UTME Disciplines: Arabic and two (2) Arts and/or Social Sciences subjects.

Archaeology

O’Level Requirements – Five (5) SSC credit passes in courses such as English Language and one (1) of the following: Religious Studies, Geography, Economics, and History.
Subjects for the UTME – Any two (2) subjects from the Arts, Social Sciences, and one (1) of History, Religious Studies, Government, and Geography.

Fine Arts

Five (5) SSC credit passes, including English Language and Fine Arts, are required for the O’Level. General Wood Work, Building/Engineering Drawing, Introduction to Building Construction; Decorative Painting; Spray Painting, Lining, Sign and Design; Wall hanging, Color Mixing/Matching and Glazing; Printing Origination; Machine Printing and Finishing; General Metal Work, Basic Electricity, Spinning, Weaving, Surface Design and Printing; Bleaching, Dyeing and Finishing; Graphic Design; Graphic Printing and Ceramics could be relevant subjects for NTC holders.
Disciplines for the UTME: Fine Arts and two (2) additional Arts or Social Science subjects.

Theatre & Performing Arts

O’Level Requirements – Five (5) SSC credit passes in topics such as English Language and Arts.
UTME Disciplines: English Literature and two (2) additional relevant subjects.

Economics

Five (5) SSC credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Economics, and at least two (2) additional relevant subjects from Commerce, Government, and Accounting are required.
Economics, Mathematics, and any of Government, History, Geography, Literature in English, French, and CRS/IS as UTME subjects.

English

O’Level Requirements – Five (5) SSC credit passes, including English Literature and English Language.
UTME Subjects: English Literature, one (1) other Arts subject, and one (1) other Arts or Social Science course.

English Language

Five (5) SSC credit passes in English Literature, English Language, and three additional Arts or Social Science subjects are required for the O’Level.
UTME Subjects: English Literature, one other Arts subject, and one other Arts or Social Science subject.

English Language and Literature

Five (5) SSC credit passes in English Literature, English Language, and three additional Arts or Social Science subjects are required for the O’Level.
UTME Subjects: English Literature, one other Arts subject, and one other Arts or Social Science subject.

French

Five (5) SSC credit passes, including French and English Language, plus one (1) other Arts subject, are required for the O’Level.
UTME Disciplines: French and two (2) other Arts subjects.

Hausa

Five (5) SSC credit passes, including English Language and Hausa, are required for the O’Level.
UTME Subjects: Hausa, English Literature, Economics, Government, History, and Arabic.

History

Five (5) SSC credit passes in History and English Language are required for the O’Level.
History and two more disciplines from the Arts and Social Sciences.

International Studies

Five (5) SSC credit passes in English Language, Geography, Government/History are required for the O’Level.
UTME Subjects: History/Government and two (2) other subjects from the Arts and Social Sciences.

Linguistics

Five (5) SSC credit passes, including English Language, are required for the O’Level.
Subjects for the UTME include any language and two (2) other subjects.

Mass Communication

O’Level Requirements – Five (5) SSC credit passes, one of which must be in English.
Subjects for the UTME – Any three (3) Arts and Social Science subjects.

Political Science

O’Level Requirements – Five (5) SSC credit passes in English Language, Government/History, and any other three (3) Arts/Social Sciences subjects, with at least a ‘O’ level pass in Mathematics.
Government/History and two (2) other Social Sciences or Arts subjects for the UTME.

Sociology

O’Level Requirements: Five (5) SSC credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, History/Government/Economics, one (1) Science subject, and any Arts or Social Science subject are required.
Subjects for the UTME: Government/History, and two (2) other Social Sciences/Arts subjects.

Direct Entry Requirements for Art Courses in ABU Zaria

The following are the Direct entry requirements for Art courses in ABU Zaria. Check out if you meet the requirements for your course before you apply:

Arabic

(1) Two ‘A’ level/IJMB passes, including Arabic at IJMB/NCE, or a minimum of Merit at Diploma in Arabic or in combination with other courses.

Archaeology

(1) Two ‘A’ levels/IJMB in Geography/Biology/History or any other subject; (2) NCE with at least Merit. (3) ABU Diploma in a similar field.

English

IJMB/NCE requires two ‘A’ level examinations, including English, or a minimum of Merit in Diploma. Candidates with a Diploma must also have a pass in English Literature.

English Literature

Two ‘A’ level papers including English at IJMB/ NCE, or a minimum of Merit at Diploma level. Candidates with a Diploma must also have a pass in English Literature. NCE General English/Use of English fulfills the O’ level English requirement.

French

Two ‘A’ level papers at IJMB/NCE, including French, or a minimum of Merit at Diploma in French or with additional Arts/Social Science disciplines.

Hausa

At IJMB/NCE, two ‘A’ level papers including Hausa, or a minimum of Merit at Diploma in Hausa or with other courses. NCE General English/Use of English fulfills the ‘O’ level English requirement.

History

IJMB or NCE requires two ‘A’ level papers, one of which is History. NCE General English/Use of English fulfills the O’ level English requirement.

Theatre & Performing Arts

Two ‘A’ level papers in English, Performing Arts, Journalism, Mass Communication, Creative Arts, Music, and Dance, Literature in English or any Nigerian Language at IJMB/NCE, or a minimum Merit at Diploma. Candidates with a Diploma must also have a pass in English Literature. NCE General English/Use of English

Civil Law

(1) Two ‘A-Level/IJMB passes in English Literature and one other Arts or Social Science course. (2) ABU Law Diploma with at least a MERIT grade. (3.) An ABU Diploma in Shari’ah and Civil Law with a minimum Merit grade.

Islamic Law 

(1) Two A-Level/IJMB passes in IRK/Arabic and any other Arts or Social Science subjects. (2) ABU Diploma in Shari’ah and Civil Law with a minimum Merit grade.

Political Science

(1) Two ‘A’ level/IJMB passes, one of which must be in Government/History and one in Economics, Sociology, or Geography. (2) An ABU Diploma in Political Science and International Studies with at least Merit. (3) Two ‘A’ level/IJMB passes, one of which must be in Government/History and one in Economics, Sociology, or Geography. (4) An ABU Diploma in Political Science and International Studies with at least Merit.

International Studies

(1) Two ‘A’ level/IJMB passes, one of which must be in Government/History and one in Economics, Sociology, or Geography. (2) An ABU Diploma in Political Science and International Studies with at least Merit. (3) Two ‘A’ level/IJMB passes, one of which must be in Government/History and one in Economics, Sociology, or Geography. (4) An ABU Diploma in Political Science and International Studies with a minimum grade point average of

Sociology
