It had always been an undying dream to get a job in any Nigeria Bank, I grew up in an environment filled with Bank workers, they always act professionally, their conduct, behaviour, dress code and lifestyle, got me so inspired and kept me with that longing to build a career path as a banker and become in the near future.
Well, the journey wasn’t that easy, unfortunately when I got to school, what I studied wasn’t in anyway related to any banking field, this is because I always believed you must study banking and finance, marketing, Accounting etc to become a banker, but that is quite far from reality, as a matter of fact, my manager studied Zoology and Environmental Biology, What has that got to do with Banking, so after all its not what you study that matters, in all, I kept the fate till working in the bank became a reality for me.
There are basic steps to becoming a banker, that is the essence of this article, it will cover categories of bank staff, major forms of recruitment, Educational qualification, basic requirements and any other relevant information you may need, I assure you by experience, if you follow these easy steps, you will surely live your dream.
To start with, Bank environment is fast growing and highly competitive, and so any display of laxity and unprofessionalism could throw you offboard, at the same time your commitments, passion, trustworthiness and loyalty to the system can keep your banking carrier excelling even above the sky.
without much talk, let’s take a look at different categories of bank workers, at every level of recruitment to get the bank job, the Nigeria bank recruits for the following;
i) Core staff or what they call professional staff
ii) outsourced staff otherwise referred to as Contract staff
The above disparity comprises the workforce of every Nigeria Bank, it is worthy of note that apart from possessing the basic educational qualification, age limit is another determining factor in getting any Nigeria bank job, If you want to build a carrier in the banking field, you must start early to live your dream, YES, THE TIME IS NOW!!!
To get a bank job as a core staff is not as easy as getting a bank job as an outsourced staff, this is because this group is mostly in the minority, and so the competition high and chances are slim. I will love to state in details the basic requirements of a professional staff as well as the outsourced bank staff.
The Professional staff:
This category of bank staff comprises majorly of;
i) Executive Trainee(ET)
ii) Experienced hire
Executive trainees include the crop of candidates who are fresh young graduates, willing to root their carrier in the banking industry, nevertheless, this is not altogether a criteria for selection, the banks also place an age limit and so even if you are a fresh graduate, you must not exceed a certain age limit as stated by the bank. Experienced hire as the name implies, this category of Bank workforce are drawn from the network of bankers currently working in any of the Nigeria banks, in other words, this is when a banker moves from one bank to another bank, these set of bankers have wealth of experience in the core banking operations, they are mostly referred to as bank professionals. BASIC REQUIREMENTS FOR EXECUTIVE TRAINEE CADRE
The following conditions qualify you to apply and get a job as an executive trainee in any Nigeria Bank;
- Must be a graduate of any field of study from any recognized higher institution
- Must have graduated with a minimum of Second class lower division(for BSc holders) and a minimum of Lower credit ( for HND holders)
- Must have completed the one year compulsory National Youth Service Corps(NYSC)
- Should not be above 26years of age(This also depends on the respective Nigeria Bank)
With the above, you are already in the path of becoming a full-fledged Banker.
HOW TO APPLY FOR A BANK JOB IN ANY NIGERIA BANK
To get a job in any Nigeria Bank, the process starts from an application, the content of the application is basically a cover letter and a Curriculum Vitae(CV), you can either submit your application online by logging into the banks website to its human resources(HR) page, or you will generally see ‘carrier’ as on their sites,

WHAT NEXT AFTER SUBMITTING YOUR APPLICATION
After submitting your application, Either step that comes first depends on the urgency of the process. After submitting your application successfully, it may take some time to be contacted by the bank for either aptitude test or interview, a friend stayed for two solid years before She was contacted by the bank, do not just go and sleep, do a good follow up,

The following conditions qualify you to fit to apply and get a job as an Experienced Hire in any Nigeria Bank;
in the addition to the conditions for an executive trainee,
- Professional qualification such as Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria(CIBN), ICAN etc. his would serve as an added advantage
- Must possess effective years of banking experience
THE OUTSOURCED STAFF(CONTRACT STAFF)
This category of bank staff makes the bulk population of the bank workforce, they are not directly employed by the bank, this is how this works!
Some corporate organisations who are into the financial services recruits for the respective banks,(I will mention the various financial organisations who play this role in my next article), trains and afterwards posts them to the different Banks who may require their services, the Banks pay the company and they, in turn, pay the outsourced staff.

BASIC REQUIREMENTS FOR THE BANK OUTSOURCED Staff (CONTRACT STAFF)
The following conditions qualify you to fit to apply and get a job as an outsourced staff in any Nigeria Bank; You do not need to be a graduate to apply for this category of bank staff:
i) must possess ND/HND with a minimum of Lower Credit
ii) Birth Certificate or age declaration
iii) a minimum of O’level five(5) credit passes (WAEC, NECO, NABTEB) or its equivalent
iv) First school leaving certificate, this is very important
v) Should not be above 24 years of age(This also depends on the respective Nigeria Bank)
HOW TO APPLY TO GET A JOB IN ANY NIGERIA BANK AS AN OUTSOURCED STAFF
The process of applying to get a job as an outsourced staff is quite different from the professional staff method of application, this is because you need to pass through an outsourced company, submit your application, get interviewed and shortlisted and then posted to a respective bank at their discretion.
For any Nigerian Bank job, you can go through the process of online application on the outsourced company website or better still submit your particulars at their corporate head office or any designated branch.
