Direct Entry Requirements For Medicine and Surgery
Admitted candidates for Medicine and Surgery through Direct Entry usually start their study from 200 level (Year 2) of the course.
Most Universities prefer you to obtain your result in not more than one sitting. The requirement for you to gain Direct Entry admission to study Medicine and Surgery if you don’t intend to use UTME JAMB includes:
- ‘A’ Level passes in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology or Zoology in addition to the UTME requirements.
- BSC, BOS, Sc., etc in a relevant programme such as Biochemistry, Biology, Anatomy, Physiology, Nursing Science, Medical Laboratory, Zoology, Chemistry, with a grade not less than a Second Class Lower Division.
Universities that do not accept candidates through Direct Entry admission include; Niger Delta University, BINGHAM University, University of Portharcourt.
Some Nigerian Universities give Special requirements for Waiver. These include:
- University of Benin grants admission with a minimum of three (3) ‘A’ level passes with a C or at least of 12 points in Biology or Zoology, Physics and Chemistry in one (1) sitting; AND a minimum of Second Class Upper Division from an accredited University in either B.Sc Biological Sciences or B.Sc. Medical Sciences.
- Universsity of Calabar grants admission with a minimum of Degree with Second Class Lower Division in Anatomy, Biochemistry, Physiology, Nursing Science, Medical Laboratory, Biology, Zoology, or Chemistry. But do not accept IJMB for Direct Entry.
- University of Ilorin grants admission with B.Sc Second Class Honours in Anatomy, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Physiology, Zoology, and other Basic Science programmes. However, accepts a minimum aggregate of 13 points.
- University of Lagos grants admission with JUPEB/‘A’ level passes in Physics Chemistry and Biology. AND B.Sc. first class/second class upper in programmes which include Physiology, Biochemistry, Physiotherapy, Ophthalmology, Pharmacology, and Zoology.
- Niger Delta University grants admission with ‘A’ level passes in Chemistry, Biology, and Physics with at least 10 points at one (1) or two (2) sittings. AND B.Sc. with at least second class upper division in Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Zoology, Chemistry, Physics and Botany.
