Posted on October 3, 2025 By CampusTimesNG 4 Comments on How To Apply For Online Tax Clearance Certificate-Corporate Taxpayers

This article will address the step by step procedure how to apply for online Tax Clearance Certificate, obtainable from the Federal Inland Revenue Service, the focus will be more on the corporate taxpayers. firstly, let me reiterate here that it is a crime punishable the law of the federal republic of Nigeria to avert tax payment,

As the world is going digital, the Federal Inland Revenue Service(FIRS) has taken its queue by introducing online application for the issuance of tax clearance certificate(TCC) to replace the manual method.

Tax Clearance Certificate

This step is taken in order to reduce fake and fraudulent Tax Clearance Certificates,

the online Tax Clearance Certificate otherwise called e-TCC

Advantages of the e-TCC

  1. It will enable FIRS Staff and authorized third parties to verify tax clearance certificates, thereby reducing the incidence of fraudulent certificates
  2. it serves time, that means tax payers do not need to wait for so long before obtaining their TCC
  3. it is more convenient as the taxpayer can apply for Tax clearance certificate even in the comfort of his home or office,
  4. details of TCC application will be sent to taxpayers mail, this is to ensure confidentiality
  5. the taxpayer can make a print out of the tax clearance certificate on his/her own convenience, anytime, anywhere.

Before we go ahead on this, let me outline a little what a tax clearance certificate is.

What Do You Understand About Tax Clearance Certificate(TCC)?

A Tax Clearance Certificate is a confirmation from the Relevant Tax Authority issued to a taxpayer indicating that the tax payer is up-to-date in the payment of its taxes at the date of issue of the Certificate.

For example, if you want to collect tax clearance certificate in the year 2013, it will cover the tax paid from 2010 to 2012.
So, if you have not paid any tax in the current year, you cannot be denied tax clearance certificate on this ground in as much as you are up-to-date in your tax payment records of the last three years.
