This article will expose you to Jamb subject combination for English or English Language in UTME examinations. It will also highlight some O’level requirements for English language in some Nigerian Universities.

In today’s society, the importance of English language can not be over emphasized. The English language is a means of communication. It is the official language of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. The English language is not only spoken in Nigeria and Britain alone, it is also widely spoken around the world.

Jamb subject combination for English

If you aspire to impact the society you live in by studying English or English language in the University, then you are making a wonderful decision. As an English language graduate, there are many career opportunities for you here in Nigeria and beyond.

As an English language professionals, you can work for foreign embassies, or become an English translator for foreign multi national companies and foreign nationals. You can also lecture in any higher institutions in Nigeria and beyond.

O’Level Requirements To Study English language

To study English or English Language, you must acquire at least Five O’level Credit to include Literature in English, English Language and three other Arts or Social Science subjects.

There are variation to these requirements in some Nigerian tertiary institutions. In the case of some schools highlighted below:

(i) ABU accept five (5) O’ level credit passes which include English Language, Literature in English, and any other Arts or Social Science subjects.

(ii) AJAYI accept five (5) O’level credit passes which include Literature in English, English Language, another Arts subject and any other two (2) subjects.

(iii) UYO accept O’level credit pass in Mathematics and any other two (2) Social Science and Art subjects.

(iv) COVENANT University and EBSU also accept O’level credit passes in Mathematics and two (2) other Arts or Social Science subjects.

(viii) BAYERO University accept five (5) O’ level credit passes which include English Language and Literature in English, plus three (3) other Arts subjects.

JAMB Subject Combination For English language

To apply for English/ English Language in JAMB, you need the following subjects:-

  • English Language (Compulsory For all courses)
  • Literature in English
  • Government/History or any other Arts subject.
