This year, you have sat for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination and now wondering what JAMB Score you need to gain admission with. The Jamb Score which determines your admission into any university is directly proportional to your choice of course and first choice school.
There are basically five factors that can determine your admission this year. This article will seek to answer your question and make it very easy for you to understand.
JAMB Score You Need To Gain Admission
The Jamb score you need to gain admission is determined by the following factors.
1. Students Performances In Jamb
The higher the performance of students in Jamb, the higher the cut off points. This is one major reason we cannot easily peg the Jamb cut off points until results are out.
The more students pass well in Jamb and Post UTME, the higher the general, faculty and departmental cut off points.
Last year’s cut off points for your course will likely not be the cut-off points to be used this year (hence the performance of student’s change yearly).
2. Nature of Your Course Generally
Prestigious Courses in Nigeria like Pharmacy, Engineering, Medicine And Surgery, Law, Accounting and so on may require you to obtain a higher Jamb score.
But, newer and less competitive courses like mathematics, mass communication, etc require relatively low Jamb UTME scores. This is because a few numbers of candidates apply to study such courses in higher institutions.
If you are not extremely brilliant, your best bet is to study courses that so many persons do not apply for. With this, it is very easy for you to secure admission once.

3. The Competitive Nature Of The Selected Course In Your Choice University
Some Universities are known or well known for a particular type of course. Because of this, the demand for it in that particular university gets higher than in other universities.
For example, UNIBEN, FUTO, and UI are known to be good at Engineering, Uniben for Pharmacy (Since they offer a doctor of Pharmacy certificate) and AAU is known for Law. You will expect the cut-off mark for those courses in these universities to be higher than normal.
4. The number of students to be admitted
The higher the carrying capacity of a University, the more they are willing to admit. This will increase the chance of being admitted with a relatively low score. The Ahmadu Bello University Zaria is generally known for this. They have the capacity to offer a large number of candidates seeking admission.
5. Admission Criteria/Factors
Admission factors and criteria such as Merit, Catchment areas and Educationally less developed States determine the Jamb score you need to be admitted. Cut off mark for merit is usually the highest. With a low JAMB score, you can be admitted based on State and catchment.
