Cape Breton University is situated in the city of Sydney, Nova scotia. The city has a population range of 50,000-249,999 inhabitants. It is positioned on Cape Breton Island’s east coast. The city was created in 1785 by colonial British and was incorporated as a city in 1904. Until 1820, Sydney served as the Colony capital of Cape Breton Island. When the colony later merged with Nova Scotia and the capital was shifted to Halifax. The city of Sydney was founded after the war by Colonel Joseph Frederick Wallet DesBarres, and named in the memory of Thomas Townshend.

Entrance Scholarships
CBU offers Entrance Scholarships to both local and foreign students on the bases of academic achievement, hardworking,? commitment, hard work, or other resumes criteria.
All fresh students (Local and international students) who wish to be considered for entrance scholarships/awards must submit the following documents in addition to other admission application requirements.

Eligibility
- Average is normally based on all AC & AD Grade 11 courses and all AC & AD completed Grade 12 courses after the first semester.
- The average of all foreign students gaining entrance into the university will be calculated by the management.
- Have at least 85% with no failures in Grade 11 or 12 courses. The average is calculated at the end of the first semester based on grade 11 and grade 12 courses.
- ESL conditional offers have to attend a Cape Breton University English language partner school to have award honoured.
In-Course Scholarships
The school also offers a number of? In-course scholarship to both local and international students after concluding their first year at Cape Breton University (minimum 24 credits). This scholarship is strictly based on academic achievements and provided to students who are not in receipt of a renewable scholarship. Students who are to receive the award/Scholarship will be contacted after the Fall/Winter semester to notify them they are in receipt of the award.
Please Note: All scholarships and awards are pro-rated based on the number of the credits a student is enrolled in each semester.

- The President?s Scholarship = The value of this Scholarship is $5,000 each year.
- A candidate who enrolled in Thirty (30) credits will receive the full $5,000,
- A candidate enrolled in Twenty-four (24) credits will receive $4,000 per year.
- Candidate?s completing courses during the Spring/Summer semester can apply for the scholarship. For example, students who are qualified for the president’s scholarship by taking Twenty (24) credit load course in the fall/winter term will receive $4,000.
- The candidate who maintains 80% average over the duration of the calendar year and takes Six (6) credits in the Spring/Summer term, they will receive an extra $1,000.
