The University Of Lagos popularly known as UNILAG, was established in 1962. It currently has two campuses, with a student population of about 70,000. The main campus is located at Akoka, Yaba, while the Medical Campus of the College of Medicine is located a few kilometers from the main campus at Idi-Araba, Surulere, all on the Lagos mainland. The College of Medicine is also the site of the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH).

University of Lagos courses

The University offers a wide range of programmes from the full-time certificate, diploma and degree programmes to part-time evening and weekend degree programmes, cutting across Twelve (12) Faculties, namely: Faculty of Social Science, Art, Business Administration, Law, Engineering/Technology, Education, Environmental Sciences, School of Clinical Sciences, Pharmacy, School of Basic Medical Sciences and School of Dental Sciences.

University of Lagos Admission Requirements

To study at University of Lagos, you must possess the following requirements:

  • The candidate must be over 16 years of age in the year of admission (Some student swear an affidavit just to increase their ages)
  • Candidates must possess a minimum of 5 credit passes in relevant subjects which must include English Language and mathematics at GCE O’ Level, WASCE, SSCE, NECO or approved equivalents at not more than 2 sittings.
  • Candidates with Teachers Grade II (TC II) with passes at credit or merit levels in conjunction with credit passes in relevant subjects at GCE, WASCE, SSCE, NECO or approved equivalents may be considered. No subject may be counted at both TC II and GCE O/Level, WASCE, SSCE, NECO or approved equivalents.
  • The candidate must make at least 200 pass mark in JAMB to qualify for internal screening.

University of Lagos JUPEB Programme

The University of Lagos, like other JUPEB-affiliated universities, offers the JUPEB programme on one of its campuses and accepts the results at the 200 level. Many students are often perplexed as to whether or not JUPEB exists.
What are the prerequisites for JUPEB? 
JUPEB Prerequisite includes: 
  • O’Level results (minimum of 5 credit passes in at least five (5) O’Level subjects, including English language and Mathematics at no more than two sittings) 
  • Four (4) passport photos 
  • Certificate of birth 
  • State of origin certification (optional)
UNILAG JUPEB fees: 
For those interested in studying for the 2025/2026 session, The JUPEB school fees for Lagos Centre are N280,000 for those interested in studying for the 2024/2025 session. 
This includes exam, lodging, tuition, textbooks, and past-question fees. 
If you do not want to stay, your total fees will be N240,000.

Is the UNILAG pre-degree form available for 2025-2026?
JUPEB UNILAG Form: The UNILAG Foundation Admission Form for the 2025/2026 Academic Session is now available for purchase. The application deadline is October 8, 2022. N210,000 was paid for the form.

How much are the pre-degree school fees at UNILAG? 

The cost of a UNILAG diploma ranges between N400,000 and N500,000.
What is the UNILAG pre-degree cut-off Mark? 
This is also the result of the UNILAG Foundation Entrance Exam. 
Only candidates with a minimum score of 40 will be considered for admission.

How does the pre-degree process work at UNILAG?
A pre-degree programme is a one-year course offered by a university to prepare students for entry into the 100 level of any of her courses. The course is divided into two semesters and typically lasts 6 to 9 months of academic work.

Is a pre-degree the same as a JUPEB? 
The Pre-degree programme is designed to prepare candidates for admission into degree programmes in all disciplines (except Medicine and Surgery) of the University, whereas the JUPEB programme is a 10month intensive coaching programme designed to prepare candidates for direct entry admission into 200-level departments of candidates’ choice in UNILAG and the over 75 universities in Nigeria and abroad affiliated to the Joint Universities Preliminary Examinations (JUPEB).
